Greetings, Dancers,
Please join us this Sunday afternoon, October 19, at the Tacoma Contra Dance for music by the Orb Weavers and calling by Penelope Weinberger. The Orb Weavers—what a delightful name—are Hayden Stern and Elise Snoey on fiddle and Ezra Jane Landsman on guitar. They spin great tunes for your dancing pleasure.
The caller, Penelope Weinberger, lives in the Washington, DC area and is touring the Pacific NW. She has called for Hayden Stern back East, and we are glad to re-unite them in Tacoma.
The dance is at Normanna Hall, 1106 South 15th Street, Tacoma. Admission is $15-$30 (sliding scale). That means “pay what you can afford.” An average payment of $19 to $20 will let us cover our costs.
If you are new to contra dancing, do be there at 3:00 for the workshop for newcomers. Within half an hour, you will know the basics of contra dancing and be ready to dance with us from 3:30 to 6:00. The experienced dancers are very welcoming to newcomers.
The caller uses gender-free role terms (“larks” and “robins”). We strive to be an inclusive, welcoming, safe, and fun community. You can read the details on our website about how we care for one another.
See you on Sunday. It should be a fine dance.
Matt
