Greetings, Dancers,
Please join us next Sunday afternoon, January 18, for contra dance music by “Odd Sock” and calling by Elisabeth Monica. Workshop at 3:00, dance 3:30 to 6:00 at Normanna Hall, 1106 South 15th Street, Tacoma.
Odd Sock, based in Olympia, weaves together old and new fiddle tunes and popular music to create a foot-stomping contra extravaganza. The players are Michael Arslanian on mandolin, bouzouki, and guitar; Kathy Brown on fiddle; Henry Plewa on fiddle and guitar; and Billy Simmons on keyboard.
The band is really good! I heard them at Folklife last May—and hired them almost on the spot to play our dance next Sunday.
Your caller, Elisabeth Monica, will start us off with a workshop for newcomers. If you are new to contra dancing, be there by 3:00 for the workshop. This is a great way to learn the basics of contra dance in a fun atmosphere. We then dance from 3:30 to 6:00.
Admission to the dance is $15 - $30. Pay what you can afford. An average of $19 or $20 will let us cover our costs.
The band is wonderful. See you Sunday on the dance floor.
Matt
