Greetings, Dancers,
Please join us next Sunday, July 21, for music by Northwest Stomp, from Portland, with calling by Rich Goss. Workshop is at 3:00, dance 3:30 to 6:00, at Fircrest Community Center, 555 Contra Costa Drive, Fircrest.
Northwest Stomp is originally a Celtic band that has migrated to the contra dance world. Katie Jane Lubiens is an awesome fiddler who smiles—yes, really smiles—as she plays. Edie Butler plays fiddle and mandolin. Thom Dudley is on guitar, Nila Garner is on bodhran, and Rob Ridley is on flute, piccolo, and whistle. A whole lot of music!
Rich Goss, your caller, will lead a workshop for newcomers starting at 3:00. This is a great way to learn the basics of contra dancing. Experienced dancers will join in, and they are very welcoming to newcomers. We then dance from 3:30 to 6:00.
We will be joined by many high school students from “Math Camp” at University of Puget Sound. Lots of new dancers from around the US. Fun!
Admission is $10 to $25, on a sliding scale. That means pay what you can afford, and please be generous. With an average attendance, we can cover our costs for rent, band, and caller with an average of $15 or $16 per dancer.
Let’s dance up a storm on Sunday. See you there.
Matt
