Greetings, Dancers,
Please join us this coming Sunday, December 15, for music by the Luddite Ramblers and calling by Amy Wimmer. The workshop starts a little after 3:00, and we then dance from 3:30 to 6:00 at the Fircrest Community Center, 555 Contra Costa Ave., Fircrest.
The Luddite Ramblers weave together infectious dance rhythms, enchanting melodies, and rich harmonies, as the fiddles, flute, and guitar meld into one big lyrical and propulsive instrument to keep the dancers moving. The players are Laurel Stone and Olga Hauptman on fiddle, Jay Finkelstein on guitar, and Craig Shaw on flute, fife, and whistle.
If you are new to contra dancing, be there at 3:00 for Amy Wimmer’s workshop. Within half an hour, you will know the basics and be ready to dance.
Admission is $12 - $25 on a sliding scale. That means pay what you can afford. We know from experience that an average of $16 per dancer will cover our costs (band, caller, sound, and rent).
Besides dancing on Sunday, we also will dance on New Year’s Eve from 9:00 pm to 12:20 am at Christ Church Wells Hall, 310 North K Street. Yes, that is our old dance locale. The band is really special. Condor Sutra is Dave Bartley on guitar, Marni Rachmiel on flute etc, Hayden Stern on fiddle, and Julie Bennett on drums and percussion. Tom Wimmer will call the dance.
So, there you go. I hope to see you twice this month for great music and dance---on Sunday in Fircrest and on NYE at Christ Church in Tacoma. Cheers.
Matt
