Greetings, Dancers,

Please join us this coming Sunday, September 22, for music by The Euphemists and calling by Laura Mé Smith.  Workshop starts at 3:00, and then we dance from 3:30 to 6:00 at the Fircrest Community Center, 555 Contra Costa Ave., in Fircrest.

The Euphemists are different.  Besides fiddle, piano, and whistle (Alan Snyder, Dave Goldman, and Greg Martin), the band has three horns.  That’s Greg Martin and Stephanie Shea on saxophones and Kaye Blesener on trombone.  They play Celtic, Québécois, and old-time tunes, plus lively jazz standards, ragtime tunes, klezmer, and even a Sousa march.  It all adds up to a unique sound and great contra dance experience.

Laura Mé Smith is a wonderful caller.  Back in 1994, she introduced me to contra dancing, and she is now as charming and witty as ever.  If you are new to contra dancing, be there by 3:00 to do the workshop with Laura Mé.

Admission to the dance is $10 to $25 on a sliding scale.  That means pay what you can afford.  We need an average of $15 or $16 per dancer to pay the bills.

There is an excellent photo of the band on our website (the link is below).  See you Sunday.
