Greetings, Dancers,
Please join us next Sunday, September 21, for music by “Pleasantly Frantic” and calling by Jesse Partridge. We dance at Normanna Hall, 1106 South 15th St., Tacoma. Workshop at 3:00, dance 3:30 to 6:00.
The band, from Portland, plays Irish, Scottish, Old Time, and other tunes with great arrangements. Erica Liebert and Ben Blechman are the fiddlers, Meg Tapley plays flute, Landon Kuhn is on bass, and J.P. Douglas is on piano. The band has a wide repertoire, from Mozart flute concertos to Irish jigs made for dancing.
Caller Jesse Partridge will lead a workshop for newcomers starting at 3:00. Be there if you are new to contra dancing. The experienced dancers will welcome you and make it a wonderful dancing experience. We then dance from 3:30 to 6:00, with an intermission.
Admission to the dance is $15 to $30—pay what you can afford. We know from experience that an average of about $19 will cover the costs for rent, band, caller, and sound.
Below, as a P.S., are three special notes.
Matt
P.S. The caller uses gender-free role terms (“larks” and “robins”).
Second, we strive to be an inclusive, welcoming, and safe community. You can read the details on our website about how we care for one another. (Thank you to the Olympia Contra Dance for writing this material so well.)
Lastly, about the sound at the August dance . . . , argh, it left much to be desired! Our regular sound man was not available, and the substitute was not qualified. My fault—I hired the wrong person. Toby Hanson, our regular guy, will do sound on Sunday. He knows the hall well and will do a fine job. See you Sunday.
