Greetings, Dancers,

Please join us this Sunday afternoon, February 16, for the first dance at our new location.  It is historic Normanna Hall, 1106 South 15th Street, in Tacoma.  The hall is owned by the local branch of the Sons of Norway, or maybe we should call them “Sons of Vikings.”  There is an awesome bronze statue of a Viking as you enter the building.

The band on Sunday is “Anglerfish,” with its deep dive into the wonders of low-toned string instruments.  Hayden Stern plays five-string fiddle, Alex Sturbaum is on mandocello, and Rae Eaton is on standing bass.  Your caller is Joe Micheals, with his deep sonorous voice and wonderful teaching style.

The workshop for newcomers will start at 3:00 or a little after, followed by the contra dance from 3:30 to 6:00, with a short intermission.  Suggested admission is in the range of $15 - $30.  Please pay what you can afford.  We need an average of $19 per dancer to cover the costs for rent, band, caller, and sound.

I am excited that we will dance in the “grand ballroom” of Normanna Hall rather than in the smaller room upstairs.  Please join us this Sunday to celebrate.  I am working now on hiring bands for future dances, and the info will be posted soon on our website, https://tacomacontradance.org.  Cheers.

Matt
