Hey folks,

At the last feast, we decided that we won't be putting out a calendar for
the month of may. We want to spend the next month focusing on finding more
organizers, finding a new space to meet, and doing outreach. If you're
interested in helping us keep the free skool afloat, here's some things
you can do:

-Come to organizing meetings every Sunday 2pm at Media Island! Right now,
we have only three people regularly attending these meetings. (we hope to
find a new meeting space by the end of April)

-Talk up the free skool. let folks know what we're trying to do and how to
get involved.

-Ask folks what they'd like to see in a free skool. what would they like
to learn?

-Ask around or let us know if there's a new space where we could meet for
organizing meetings and the feast.

Thanks,
Momo

Free Skool is NOT abandoning the community. The Free Skool is SUPPORTING the community by relocating events and meetings to a location that is better suited to social movement organizing.

I am SO EXCITED to see the Free Skool revive itself!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, everyone! Thought I'd let you know about some cool events coming up!!!

* Boundary Setting, Self-Care & Radical Social Change (presented by The Icarus Project at Evergreen)
Thursday, April 21st, 6 - 9 PM at The Evergreen State College (SEM II A1107)

Crisitien Storm is offering a workshop at Evergreen. This workshop offers practical skills grounded in anti-oppression analysis. Participants practice boundary setting strategies while attending to larger social and political contexts that deeply inform how we take care of ourselves.

* Facilitation Skills and Consensus Process
Tuesday, April 26th, 5:30 - 7:00 PM at The Evergreen State College (SEM II A2109)

Consensus process is an egalitarian method of making decisions with roots in the Quaker tradition, now commonly used by radical activists in a variety of movements. Have you ever wondered why your anarchist friend wiggles zir fingers enthusiastically when excited in daily conversation? What is a "direct response" as opposed to a "point of process"?

In this interactive workshop, we'll learn the ins and outs of using consensus process, both as a participant and as a facilitator. If you've sat through too many 3-hour (or more!) meetings and wish you knew how to speed things along without excluding any voices, or noticed that the same two people tend to take up the airtime in every meeting, or wanted to get more people to contribute to discussions, then this is the training for you.

Facilitation skills and consensus process are applicable not just in activist meetings, but also in daily interactions. We'll discuss how to transfer these skills to less formal settings to become better communicators, listeners, support-people, and friends.

This free event is sponsored by the Environmental Resource Center. Invite your friends!

* Cultural Appreciation or Cultural Appropriation?
Wednesday, April 27th, 10 - 12:00 PM at The Evergreen State College (Library 1001)

What is cultural appropriation? How can we appreciate other cultures without perpetuating oppressive dynamics?

In this interactive workshop we will discuss why cultural appropriation happens, how it's harmful, how to identify it, what we've all lost because of it, and how to prevent further appropriation and heal from it.

This event is sponsored by First Peoples Advising and Day of Absence Day of Presence 2011. For more information on Day of Absence Day of Presence, please visit www.evergreen.edu/multicultural.

Feel free to invite your friends!
