Facilitation Skills and Consensus Process
Tuesday, April 26th, 5:30 - 7:00 PM at The Evergreen State College (
SEM II A2109)
Consensus process is an egalitarian method of
making decisions with roots in the Quaker tradition, now
commonly used by radical activists in a variety of movements.
Have you ever wondered why your anarchist friend wiggles zir
fingers enthusiastically when excited in daily conversation?
What is a "direct response" as opposed to a "point of process"?
In this interactive workshop, we'll learn the ins and outs of
using consensus process, both as
a participant and as a facilitator. If you've sat through too
many 3-hour (or more!) meetings and wish you knew how to speed
things along without excluding any voices, or noticed that the
same two people tend to take up the airtime in every meeting,
or wanted to get more people to contribute to discussions,
then this is the training for you.
Facilitation skills and consensus process are applicable not
just in activist meetings, but also in daily interactions.
We'll discuss how to transfer these skills to less formal
settings to become better communicators, listeners,
support-people, and friends.
This free event is sponsored by the Environmental Resource
Center. Invite your friends!

Cultural Appreciation or Cultural Appropriation?
Wednesday, April 27th, 10 - 12:00 PM at The Evergreen State College
(Library 1001)
What is cultural appropriation? How can we appreciate other cultures
without perpetuating oppressive dynamics?
In this interactive workshop we will discuss why cultural
appropriation happens, how it's harmful, how to identify it, what
we've all lost because of it, and how to prevent further
appropriation and heal from it.
This event is sponsored by First Peoples Advising and Day of Absence
Day of Presence 2011. For more information on Day of Absence Day of
Presence, please visit

Feel free to invite your friends!
