OLPC Nepal Community News for Jan. 2, 2007

1. Shankar's article "One Laptop Per Nepali Child" appeared on OLPCNews.com last week ( http://www.olpcnews.com/countries/nepal/one_laptop_per_nepali_child.html)

2. We had our first meeting with officials from the Ministry of Education.  In attendance were Arjun Bahadur Bhandari - Joint Secretary for the Ministry of Education Strategy, Lava Deo Awasthi - Undersecretary for the Ministry of Education Strategy, Hari Bik Khanal - Executive Director of the Curriculum Development Center, among many others.  Ankur, Shankar, and Teeka made a great presentation. All in attendance were quite enthusiastic about OLPC in Nepal. 

Special thanks to Dr. Awasthi and Roshan Chitrakar for arranging the presentation.

3. OLPC Nepal will make a presentation on January 9th at the Computer Association of Nepal's (CAN) yearly conference.  CAN Infotech is the premier IT event in Nepal. This will be OLPC-Nepal's first public presentation.  Special thanks to Kishor Panth for arranging our presentation at very short notice.

4. The Education Officer at the Finnish Embassy, Juho Uusihakala, has graciously offered to arrange a meeting for OLPC-Nepal with all of the large education donors in Nepal.  The meeting should take place within the next two weeks.

5. Ankur is working on a Nepali Activity which is a part of Varnamala. The activity helps children learn the 36 letters in Nepali.

6. Developers are also working on implementing other local languages. They are now testing the Tamang language.
