We have a new website courtesy of Rajiv Karna and his company Xclusive Minds (www.xclusiveminds.com).
We have a new server courtesy of the Computer Association of
Nepal (CAN). Thanks to Kishor Panth for coordinating this. We will use
this new serve to host a repository of software code and learning
materials for OLPC. We also wish to thank Ajit Shah and Aadish Shrestha
of Everest Net for hosting this server at their facility and providing
technical support.
Last week, Shankar attended the Countries Meeting at OLPC
Headquarters in Boston, USA. Babu Ram Poudel, Deputy Director DoE and
Thomas Grotkjaer Nielsen, ESAT Advisor DoE accompanied him.
Representatives from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ethiopia,
Kazakhstan, Kenya, Libya, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Panama, Peru,
Romania, Russia, Rwanda, Thailand, and Uruguay alongside
representatives from various UN agencies, Inter-American Development
Bank and USAID attended the week long meeting. Shankar was surprised to
hear OLPC Nepal mention in many presentations as the model grassroots
OLPC organization.
This week we managed to attract one of the most
respected educators in Nepal to our project. Christine Stone has worked
in the education field in Nepal for over twenty-five years. She has
taught primary school, written Nepali textbooks, and now primarily
trains teachers in rural areas of Nepal. Here is a great article in
the Nepali Times about her. http://www.nepalitimes.com/issue/324/Leisure/12869
Meredith Adhikari and Shilesh have started filming a
documentary on our work in schools. Meredith and Shilesh have actually
organized a team of musicians to provide a soundtrack for the
documentary.
