Thank you, Walter. OLPC is not a commercial project, but it is all
about creating demands (markets) for a learning device that can go
with each school kid in developing countries and underdeveloped
countries. Perhaps, the meaning of "marketing" is probably not on
the maximization of the XO machines, but on the market size of all
low-cost laptop initiatives made by all manufacturers of the world.
Perhaps we can say that the marketing of the concept "one laptop per
child" is the objective, and now Intel joined OLPC (after AMD),
Microsoft joined OLPC (after Redhat) and many more other companies
(Eee PC's by Asus; many similar projects in many countries).
If that is the case, I would say that Prof. Nicholas Negroponte is a
very successful visionary and marketer for the concept of OLPC. XO is
a really great example and a "benchmark" for every alternative
solutions of OLPC.
Congratulations, OLPC.
I am waiting for my copy of the HBS case study.
