As an admin-level user, I moved a board from one folder to another and yet am unable to delete the now empty folder because I did not create it. Echoing the above, as an admin user, it is critical I am able to override the default permissions/ creations of lower-level users. Please help!

This has broken our entire file architecture and macro system! It is one thing to add a folder by default and an entirely different thing to change the name of the root folder and then add another subfolder in between. This is unacceptable from Dropbox's end and it is a feature that we have no use for anyway. Why wouldn't you make this an opt in? Highly disappointed and with issues like these, we will begin looking at a different file system that not only costs less but won't give us this type of thoughtless "feature" in the future.
This really is a massive step backwards in my opinion and we will also now start to look at other solutions unless Dropbox really start to come with solutions and understand the issues this has created for companies
We're in the same boat. Dropbox worked flawlessly starting from 2017 until this change that we didn't want or need and now syncing doesn't work. Deleted files on a Mac don't get deleted in the Dropbox cloud and Dropbox never stops syncing like it's stuck in a loop. So far tech support has asked us to log out, reinstall, quit, etc. None of it has worked and they have gone silent.
This was a complete disaster, changed all the file paths and broke all sorts of scripts / tools that we use for automation. This has made having standard environments difficult since every user has a different path to dropbox. Would be really great to revert this unnecassary change.
We have set up an automation between our CRM and our Client Services workspaces to create a series of new boards from templates any time a new lead becomes a new client. However, there is no automation to build a new folder for that new account (which all boards should live under). This seems like a pretty obvious thing that is currently missing.
Yes we could really use this feature as well. There are different columns needed for different aspects of our projects. To have it all in one board is very cumbersome. Would be nice to divide into scheduling, ordering etc all within one project folder that could be created from a folder template with all the boards inside every time a deal is sold.
I am a French Guy so sorry for my English. I am not able to cancle the sharing of a folder even if I do this on the setting of that folder. Like this way : -and-collaboration/Unshared-folder-still-showing-up-a-shared/...

I am having the same issue. I need to move a folder that was shared to a new shared folder. I choose "unshare" for my original folder. It removed all members. It states "only you", meaning me, yet the shared icon will not got away nor can I move it to a new shared folder. And please don't say if it says "only you" then I need to removed myself. All of my folders that are unshared say that, yet aren't shared and do not have the icon representing the folders are shared. This has happened to me multiple times and I can't seem to find any advice on how to fix the problem other than copy all of the files to a new folder individually, which is a waste of time.
Yes, and I did click Unshare. However, the folder itself (even after I unshare) still has the "shared" icon - the two people figures in the folder. The members column shows "only you". After I have clicked unshare, and try to move it to a new shared folder, I get a message that I can't, because I can't have a shared folder within a shared folder. I understand that concept. Unfortunately, when I unshare, it doesn't recognize that. It removes all the members, but like I said, the folder icon still shows two people figure like it is still shared.
I agree - the design of this is absolutely terrible; this should be very straight forward. If I remove other people from it and I am the only one with access, then it should not be considered a shared folder any longer.
I think what I had to do was first "Remove from Dropbox". The folder still showed up with the "you haven't joined this folder" message. So then I went into Deleted Files and selected "Permanently Delete". Now finally it is gone.
The most recent system change I made was a few days ago; I swapped out an external hard disk drive that I was using for Time Machine. It was several years old and beginning to fail. Dropbox had nothing to do with that disk. Prior to that, I upgraded to macOS Monterey in early November, and everything was fine with Dropbox afterward.
(Although even if it wasn't, I don't understand why I can't just re-select the original Dropbox folder and go on my merry way just like I've done lots of times over the years with new computers, new disks, new folder arrangements. It's never stopped me in my tracks at startup before this problem).
As for how I used to go about re-linking. Probably through advanced settings. I don't recall exactly because it didn't happen all that often -- except when I changed computers. I'd take a screenshot to show you, but this new error won't let me past the modal dialog without either quitting or logging out of Dropbox to start over. The previous functionality was preferable.
Also -- Selective Sync isn't a viable solution for me. I work with a lot of large files, and I need them on my system for many reasons -- searching, rapid opening and editing, backups, and more. When I double click on a file or attach it to an email, it's got to be there ready to go.
I appreciate this thread is about 2 years old, but it's become relevant to me. I've just sent a message to DB directly, having read this thread. I feel I have to push back on the advisory not to store DB on an external drive. If, like me, you are a MacBook Pro user with a 3TB Dropbox account, you will know that internal storage comes at a huge premium. I have just shifted from a 1TB Intel i7 MBP to a 516GB M2 Pro. This means I have to be careful with my internal storage. As such I have opted to offload my DB to an external storage device. This is primarily so that I have a local offline copy of massive projects that may otherwise take a long time to download. These are the steps every time I've started up my MBP with the external drive connected:
I think the DB platform is a smart solution, but migrating large dropbox folders from internal to external storage is inelegant and time-consuming. I've not had to do this for years, since I've had enough storage to keep what I need online and offline as necessary, and I'm still figuring out exactly how to use my cloud storage going forward. For now, just getting everything download so I have a local copy is the priority.
What is Dropbox doing to ensure its platform can be stored on external drives? If Dropbox still does not recommend it, what are the issues that Dropbox cannot fix? Or is it just not a priority on the task list?
I am trying to reorganize my dropbox because I literally have thousands of folders, and I need them to be more logically nested. This is no problem with shared folders that I own, but I can't move any shared folders where I am not the owner. This is a nightmare, because it means that every folder anyone has ever shared with me remains in my top level dropbox folder and cannot be filed into the relevant subfolder within dropbox. Because I can't find any information about this issue online, I am assuming that my dropbox is not functioning correctly. Hoping someone can help me to fix this issue?
Here is the error message I get when I try to move a shared folder where I am not the owner from my top level dropbox folder to a different subfolder within dropbox (that is not shared with anyone else, in case that is relevant):
