Dear Chess Club,
The chess tournament was a great success - we had about 20 participants, including kids from other schools (placing in the top three in both sections). Everyone had fun; Jonathan Hay won the 12th and under division, and Sam Defreese won the 8th and under division. Please send me any pictures you took, so I can put them on our blog, and let me know if you have any feedback to make it better! Special thanks to Andy for check-in help, Katy for unwavering assistance, and to Thomas for the long trek from Logensport to check out our club!
Today was the last school day of the semester/year, and since we follow the school calendar, chess club is on Christmas break as well! Our next meeting will be Monday, January 5th, 2009.
Dues are a little more for next semester, since there are more meetings: $20 for OLL students, $30 for non-students (or the regular $2/$3 per meeting). Please bring your dues to the first meeting (or you can paypal or mail a check). If you are interested in joining the United States Chess Federation (to get a chess magazine and a national rating, let me know).
Mark your calendar: Sunday January 25th is the Lourdes open house, and the Chess Club will have a table from 1p to 3p. I would like to have club members playing chess at the table; if you would like to do that, please let me know what time (30 minute block) you will be there.
