ביום שבת 3.1.09 נקיים בסוסיא הפגנה גדולה במחאה נגד הקמת המאחז החדש על אדמות הפלסטינים ונגד הניסיון לנשל את התושבים הפלסטינים ולהרוס את בתיהם. נביע את הזדהותנו עם תושבי סוסיא הפלסטינים ונחזק את ידם במאבקם הצודק. נקרא לממשלת ישראל להסיר לאלתר את המאחזים,כפי שהבטיחה לעשות, ולשים קץ לאלימות הנפשעת של המתנחלים בגדה המערבית כולה. שוב נשמיע יחד את קול השלום שהולך ומשתתק.

סוסיא הפלסטינית, השוכנת על גבעה סלעית צחיחה מול התנחלות סוסיא הישראלית, מונה כיום כ-70 נפשות—שארית הפליטה מהכפר המקורי שאדמותיו השתרעו על שטח גדול במרחב דרום הר חברון. סיפורה של סוסיא כולל מספר גירושים של התושבים הפלסטינים מבתיהם, התנכלויות אלימות בלתי פוסקות מצד המתנחלים, וצמצום הדרגתי אך חסר מעצורים של שטחי המרעה והעיבוד ההיסטוריים של הכפר. לפני כארבע שנים הוכרז שב"מ—שטח בטחון מיוחד—מסביב להתנחלות שגודלו פי חמש משטח ההתנחלות עצמה—כולו על חשבון אדמות פרטיות של הפלסטינים. בינתיים, במהלך השנתיים האחרונות, הולך וקם על גבעה סמוכה מאחז "בלתי חוקי" חדש,עדיין חסר שם, כולו על אדמות משפחת הדאר. כדרכם של מאחזים כאלה, הלך המאחז החדש התרחב, התגבש, תפח, וזכה להגנה שוטפת של צה"ל: במקום הוקמה עמדת שמירה שחייליה מאבטחים את המאחז ומונעים כניסת זרים, כולל בעלי הקרקע הפלסטינים, למקום. לאחרונה, בדרך הטבע, הורחב השב"מ על מנת לכלול את השטח מסביב למאחז. לבעלי הקרקע הפלסטינים לא נותר אלא להתבונן בעיניים כלות בעוד פיסה ממותר נחלתם החוקית אליה הם מנועים לגשת.
בסוסיא רואים בגלוי, בשקיפות מוחלטת, את תהליך ההתנחלות על כל מרכיביה, החל בגניבת הקרקעות מבעליהן החוקיים וכלה בהתמסדות היישוב החדש תחת עינו הפקוחה של צה"ל ובסיועו המאסיבי. הצעד הבא יהיה ללא ספק הפיכתו של המאחז לחלק בלתי נפרד מה"רצף" הטריטוריאלי שהמתנחלים רוקמים בשטחים בתמיכת הצבא וסיפוחו הלכה למעשה למדינת ישראל תוך כדי גירוש התושבים הפלסטינים מבתיהם. ומנגד תלויים ועומדים צווי הריסה כנגד האהלים והפחונים שהקימו תושבי סוסיא הפלסטינים על אדמותיהם הפרטיות לאחר שגורשו מבתיהם ונהרסו הבתים והמערות בהם התגוררו מימים ימימה. תושבים אלה (בסיוע ארגוני שלום הישראליים) נאבקים על זכותם לחיות על אדמתם בהליך משפטי מתמשך. ההליך המשפטי עדיין לא מוצה, אך סכנת הגירוש היא ממשית .
בינתיים, בדרום הר חברון כמו בשאר השטחים הכבושים, הפך צה"ל לצבא ההגנה על ההתנחלויות הבלתי חוקיות, כפי שפעולותיו בשטח מוכיחות יום יום.
While Barak tells the government that "No new illegal outpost has been established in the last two years," a new outpost has appeared at Susya with the full support of the army.
Stop the army's support for the outposts!
Stop the eviction of the Palestinians of Susya!
On Saturday, January 3, 2009, we will demonstrate at Susya against the new outpost set up with the active support of the IDF and the Israeli authorities and against the attempt to expel the Susya Palestinians from their homes. We will express our solidarity with the Palestinians of Susya and support them in their struggle. We will call on the Government of Israel to remove at once all the outposts, as it has promised to do, and to put an end to the criminal violence of the settlers throughout the West Bank. Together we will renew the joint call for peace that has nearly fallen silent.

Background:
Palestinian Susya, situated on a barren, rocky hill across from the Israeli settlement of Susya, comprises today some 70 souls—what is left of the original village whose lands once spread over a large area in the south Hebron hills. Susya's story includes several expulsions of the Palestinian villagers, constant violent attacks by the settlers, and the gradual but remorseless loss of historic agricultural and grazing lands. About four years ago a Special Security Zone (SSZ) was declared around the settlement of Susya; this SSZ is some five times that of the settlement itself, and all of it is on privately owned Palestinian land. Meanwhile, over the last two years a new "illegal" outpost, still nameless, has been established on a nearby hill on land belong to the Hadar family. Like all such outposts, this one has grown, expanded, consolidated itself, fenced itself in, and come to enjoy the ongoing protection of the Israeli army: a guardpost has been set up, and the soldiers who occupy it protect the outpost and deny access to "strangers," including the original owners of these lands who can only look with longing at another lost piece of their ancestral holdings. Here, as elsewhere, the IDF has clearly become the Army of Defense for Illegal Settlements.
At Susya the entire process of settlement is transparent, from the initial theft of the land from its rightful owners to the full establishment of the settlement under the wings of the army. The next step will undoubtedly be to turn the outpost into an inseparable part of the continuous territorial strip that is slated for annexation to Israel, along with the final expulsion of the original Palestinian inhabitants. Indeed, demolition orders are still in force against the tents and shacks that the Palestinians of Susya have erected on their private lands after their homes and caves were destroyed. The Susya Palestinians are struggling, with the help of Israeli peace organizations, to maintain their right to live on their land; the legal process is not yet complete, but the danger of expulsion remains very real.
