AscendPilot Academy, in partnership with Hillsboro Aero Academy, aims to provide aspiring pilots a simpler, more financially accessible path to becoming a student pilot. Enrolled cadets will be eligible for access to financial aid, and a stipend up to $27,000 upon signing on to work for Horizon Air.
We know the path to becoming a commercial pilot can seem long and challenging. Ascend Pilot Academy aims to support aspiring pilots through their journey by providing support and easing the cost burden of flight training. Once training is completed and employment at Horizon Air begins, the opportunity to join the Pathways program to be a First Officer at Alaska Airlines is available.

A staggering 75% of Alaskans have either personally experienced or know someone who has been a victim of domestic violence or sexual assault. The state's rate of child mistreatment surpasses the national average by 69.3%, while elder physical abuse is 2.4 times higher and elder psychological abuse is 1.6 times higher than national rates. An assault occurs every hour in the state.
Despite the pervasive nature of violence, many regions in Alaska lack the capacity to document and collect the necessary medical evidence crucial for aiding victims of crime. The Alaska Comprehensive Forensic Training Academy (ACFTA) offers accessible training to address this gap, empowering health care professionals to deliver trauma-informed, evidence-driven care and contribute to enhancing community safety. Learn more about the academy.
Beyond its training objectives, the ACFTA team actively seeks ongoing feedback from community members, including stakeholders and professionals across various health care fields throughout the state. Conducting a tour of Alaska, they host meetings and focus groups in communities to ensure that the training provided aligns with the diverse and unique needs of Alaska's communities. Learn more about upcoming health care and stakeholder meetings in a community near you.

The Law Enforcement Academy is a rigorous 14-week training program designed to prepare you for work as a law enforcement professional. The program provides basic police training that can qualify you for certification by the Alaska Police Standards Council.
Program coursework includes instruction in crime scene investigation, emergency vehicle operation, building searches, defensive tactics, handgun and shotgun training, traffic stops, shooting decisions, first aid training, interview and interrogation techniques, accident investigation, traffic control, physical arrest, and handcuffing. Students take part in rigorous physical fitness training throughout the duration of the academy.
Graduates of the program have gone to work as pipeline security personnel, police officers, sergeants, lieutenants, chiefs of police, K-9 handlers, undercover officers, tactical police team members (SWAT), and detectives. Others have become adult and juvenile probation officers, corrections officers, park rangers, and dispatchers.
The Law Enforcement Academy prepares students for a career in law enforcement in the state of Alaska. Alaska Police Standards Council certification will allow qualified candidates to work as a commissioned officer in any of approximately 65 state and municipal law enforcement organizations.
The certification is approved by the Alaska Police Standards Council in compliance with Title 13.85.050 of the Alaska Administrative Code. Courses are not offered separately but must be taken as part of the entire Law Enforcement Academy package.
Students will be expected to maintain a sufficient degree of physical conditioning in order to participate successfully in classes that cover topics such as physical arrest, weapons retention, and handcuffing. In addition, most police departments in the state require applicants to pass a basic physical proficiency test prior to being hired.
Special admission, licensing, or certification requirements may apply to students in this program. Applicants should familiarize themselves with these and speak with a program advisor if they have any questions or concerns.
