On Tuesday, May 11th, BAREC Cleanup and Safety Concerns will be on the agenda for the Santa Clara City Council meeting. The meeting begins at 7:00pm and the item will probably be heard after 7:30pm. Please try to arrive before then.

The BAREC agenda item is focused on the current cleanup operation by the State of California. Currently, all the buildings have been demolished (e.g., the visitor center, the three green houses, the storage and work buildings, etc.) and they are moving onto the toxic soil excavation next (see photo below of the remains of the Visitor's Center building located behind the front gate).

If you have questions, concerns, statements, requests, etc. about this action by the State of California, please attend this meeting and fill out a speaker card in the front of the room and put the Agenda Item 8A on it.

I will send a follow-up message on Monday to remind you of the meeting.

This is probably the last time you will have a chance to speak to the Santa Clara City Council on this matter before Environ, the State's contractor, really starts digging into the property and releasing toxins into the air. For me, this is a concern not just for the San Jose and Santa Clara families on the three sides that directly boarder the property, but also the surrounding neighborhood and the many thousands of daily shoppers at Westfield's Valley Fair and Santana Row.

If you have any questions, please email me back. Again, I will send one (1) more email to you regarding the City Council meeting. I will try to limit the amount of email generated around this topic, but these emails are event driven. It just so happens that many events have taken place in the last three weeks.

A website with basic information (not complete by any means) is located here:
