Everyone who is interested in further discussion, information sharing, and problem solving about safety and crime prevention in light of recent shootings, please meet me at the corner of 26th and Charles Street on Wednesday, October 24 at 6:30 PM for a Neighborhood Walkers on Patrol walk east of Charles Street to Greenmount followed by a meeting at the CVCBD conference room at 2434 St. Paul Street from 7:30 PM to 8:30 p.m. Come for all or part of it as you are able.
I am asking Presidents of Abell, Barclay, CVCA, Harwood, and Old Goucher to spread the word to their email groups. And for CVCBD to include this in their next Crime Alert. And for Steve Gerwitz to announce to his Court Watch email list.
In addition to interested residents and business owners, I am also inviting the following to attend:
Major Sabrina Tapp-Harper, Deputy Major Richard Worley, Officer Doug Gibson, and Officer William O'Donnell from the Northern District Police Dept
Mark Chesshire, Community Liaison, City States Attorney's Office
Diana Mitchell, Community Safety Coordinator from the Charles Village Community Benefits District
Carl Stokes and Mary Pat Clarke, City Council Representatives
Steve Gerwitz, Volunteer, Court Watch Subcommittee
Please spread the word.
Sharon L. Guida, CVCA Safety Committee

Sharon, thank you for getting the ball rolling with a meeting to discuss crime in the neighborhood.
Anyone who is interested in attending, please email Sharon directly (SLG...@cs.com) to let her know if the 24th will work for you.
Thanks also to those of you who have contributed to this conversation to note concerns and initiate a constructive dialogue about safety in our neighborhood. We are pleased to see this listserv being used as a resource to connect people who have the desire to work together to ensure this is a safe community for everyone, and we encourage you to continue to use it in that way.
We'd also like to acknowledge that, despite this recent spate of crime, we believe that Charles Village continues to be a safe community for families, which is thanks in large part to vigilant residents like many of you, as well as the very dedicated members of the Charles Village Community Benefits District. We also know that there is always room for improvement, and we hope that those of you who share concerns about safety will actively take part in addressing issues and contributing to solutions. Please consider attending the community meeting that Sharon is proposing, participating in Neighborhood Walkers on Patrol , and recording and reporting to Sharon suspected illegal activity that you observe. These are easy ways you can make a difference.
Then go hang out on your porch or go for a walk and enjoy the beautiful weekend!
Thanks for your part in making Charles Village such a wonderful place to live and serve,

The CVCA Safety Committee is happy to host a meeting between residents, Northern District Police, CVCBD Safety Program, Carl Stokes, and Mary Pat Clarke, to address recent crimes in the area, and collective action for solutions.
What is your preference for time of day and day of week for the meeting? Next Saturday Oct 27 is Mayor's Cleanup Day so that will not work unless we schedule the meeting for the afternoon.
We could schedule a meeting for Wednesday, Oct 24, at 6:30 PM, meet at 26th and Charles and do the regular Wednesday Night Neighborhood Walkers on Patrol east of St. Paul Street and meet for an hour after that. Also, the CVCA is dedicating its General Membership meeting on January 30, 2013 to Safety when the Mayor and the new Police Commissioner will be in attendance.
COURT WATCH: If you know of an arrest, please provide me with date and name of defendant or name of police officer who made the arrest, whether you made a 911 call, so that I can track that arrest to make sure it makes it to the Court Watch Report. CVCBD supports a court watch committee which monitors court cases of defendants who are arrested committing crimes in Charles Village. Reps from CVCA, OGCA, and Harwood Community Associations (Abell has been invited to send a rep) meet monthly Safety Advisory Council meetings with Mark Chesshire, States Attorney's Office, Northern District, JHU, UM, BMA, Parole and Probation, to review arrests, Steve Gerwitz, resident volunteer, follows the cases in court, and Diana Mitchell, CVCBD Community Safety Coordinator, prepares Community Impact Letters addressed the judge at sentencing and maintains the most recent Court Watch report on the CVCBD. website at www.charlesvillage.org.
