Monroe 10 /canon Pocketronic repair question

Dear friends,

I have recently obtained a Monroe 10 and a Pocketronic.
It seems that they work internally with 16V supplied by a huge ammount
of batteries (they are all leaked).
Do this 16V go fully to the same entry point, or maybe they are
splitted into 8V for the printer and 8 to the calculator? (sorry if I
don't express this well enough)...
Do you know if I can make the calculator work only with the external
charger?? (In both cases it doesn't start when plugged to the
charger)...if yes, maybe should I rdisconnect completely the old
batteries; or they must be operational (not leaked) to make the
calculator work simultaneously with the external charger?

Thanks in advance and sorry for asking that much, but I have to
confess that I am a bit blocked with this.

The Monroe 10 and Canon Pocketronic are indeed identical in every way
except the case.
They both use 6 x AA nicad cells in series for the one supply and 7 x
2/3 AA nicad cells in series for the other power supply and share a
common ground. You should not charge these with a single supply
becasue the 2/3 AA cells will get charged to capacity more quickly
then the AA cells and will overheat.

It will not run off the charger alone (not even the high speed
charger) you need to have good cells in the calculator. However you
can disconnect the batteries and power this using 2 external DC power
supplies one set to about 7.5 volts the other to about 8.75. Make
sure that each power supply can easily supply 1.5 amps of current as
the print head and paper drive motor draw a lot of current at their
peak load.
