Hello Collectors

I have the opportunity to buy here in Uruguay a rare MADAS calculator as seen in the photo. Please see atatched.

My knowledge on the topic is zero. I just make a living by buying and selling interesting collectibles Can anyone advise a fair sale price for the item being SOLD UNTESTED AS IS.

Can anyone be interested in getting it? Please do not hesitate to send me a PM

Best wishes from Uruguay and thanks a lot for your time

Wow! A calculator with legs! And is that a bell in the upper left?

I think trying to put a price on it is tough. Nothing like it to compare with.

Mikael,

I checked ebay.

There are two similar models on ebay.

There is one that was $2799 USD, then $2649, now at $2199. Still unsold. Looks to be even older with sliders for each number position instead of buttons for each digit.

Looking in completed auctions, one sold for $1450 USD in England.

Both look to be in better shape than the one you posted. Also it looks like the one you posted has a stand or legs added. Perhaps an extra cost option or a home made add on. That's cool either way. The two on ebay had covers to protect everything. They all seem to be missing a key or two.

I think it's interesting where all these were located, Uruguay, London England, France, Barcelona Spain and so on. Very international. One seller states it was made in Switzerland. Another had complete instructions in Spanish. Most seem to have dealer plaques added.

Value of the slider MADAS with respect to the key MADAS is a different ballpark, and the quoted prices on ebay are ridiculous in the first place - which is why these machines have been there for months. They could realistically sell at around 900-1200$. For a late electric keyboard MADAS in this condition, you may get 400-600$ on ebay, if you are lucky. Keep in mind that the one linked by Rick that sold for 1450$ has all the keys, is a manual crank model, is in great condition, and is in the UK - nearly all the collectors for these machines are in Europe - machine in the UK = no customs charges, and less expensive shipping - so price can go up by 35%. Look at madas.ch for a flavour of what else is around from this brand - there are plenty of different combinations of capacities, many of which are much more rare than others, which also drives up the price. This is a IXeT MINA. Not one of the commonest models, which is good, if you can sell to someone who knows what they are doing. In any case, they were (and are) very high quality machines.
If you got it cheap enough, you'll do fine on ebay. If you paid a 1000$, basically don't expect to get your money back.
I would recommend to our US friends on this list to try owning one of these machines - the quality is fantastic, and once you have gone through the electrics in order not to get killed by AC due to lacking insulation and grounding, they are a joy to run.

Good luck!

Hi Cris
Thank you so much for your valuable info!

What would be the best title to list this item? Sorry for my ignorance...
Is it a mechanical or electrical calculator or a mix of both?
Best wishes

Mikael

Dear Cris
I checked carefully the photos of all the models shown in www.madas.ch and I reached the conclusion that mine seems to be a

VIIe T MISS

and not a IXeT MINA as you suggested...just looking at the type of keys....

Do you agree?

Is this one more common or less? Does the value change if it is a VIIe T MISS as I think?

Many thanks!!

Hi Mikael,

The name and Roman number are associated with the capacity of the machine. Your machine has 9 input key columns, 9 windows in the multiplication register, and 16 in the result - so 9 x 9 x16 - which is the IXe T MINA. The "MINA" is a fantasy name, all the models have one, the IX is the number of windows in the result register, "e" stands for "electric" and "T" stands for "Tasten" (keys)

I would list it as a late 1920's MADAS IX eT electro-mechanical four-function calculator with full keyboard.

Good luck selling it!
