identifying postcards from the number only not the title and do i need a gazeeter

I wondered if you could help , although a very strictly new collector,
i have just bought a coastel view that i wanted , when i received it
the place name was not written on the bottom , but a description was
plus A WHITE NUMBER , now how do you identify a place name from this
number , was bought from a very reputable dealer , also when i sell a
few cards what is the best gazetter to buy to identify small villages
and towns
i do hope someone can help with these qustions , happy new year chris
