Nokia 8110 4G and possibly other two KaiOS devices actually have Fastboot mode, but have to be triggered by tampering either boot or recovery.It also proved there's bootloader lock state. This method is discovered by Dylanmurz[1].
Now to unlock the bootloader, we need to use the HCTSW_ARG-unlock_pkg (will be added later) and flash it via EDL mode.Note this package is specifically for Nokia 8110 4G and cannot be used by other models.
For Windows users, make sure the driver is indicated as "Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008" in device manager before you flash, then use QFIL to load the firehose file and the rawprogram0_arg.xml only to flash them.
Since recovery is tampered, bootloader unlock won't erase userdata immediately. However, due to the existence of recovery-from-boot.p in stock OS, the recovery itself will be recovered - when you reboot to recovery again, the userdata erasing procedure will be triggered.
If someone's willing to give it a go, I can use that dump to restore mine to operating condition + keep digging into the thing some more. Process is installing some drivers/software, taking the cover off, bridging the two pins next to the Snapdragon side serial header, turning the unit on, and running a couple of commands (both Linux and Windows work for this, though Linux is simpler) to start the firehose loader and dump the flash.
Hi, I'm currently trying to figure out if the MT6890 bootloader can be unlocked to allow me to download the partitions. I'm waiting for feedback currently. I saw a lot of tools to unlock the bootloader but primarily for mobiles, and not always 100% clear about if the MT6890 is supported. Did you research this end?
There's a Micro USB port: I've tried to access to it and my pc (Windows) recognized it as "MT65xx Preloader" the first time. But the connection is established only when the FastMile is turned on and then, after few seconds, it disconnected.
There won't be a connection if you connect to the port when the router is already running.
Interestingly I can't find someone that get's this error without seeing information about the MT first. At least that VCOM preloader mode was detected, and it is waiting for BROM mode. This is nothing you see, right?
If you look in post requests it shows it is locked in Cellular only mode. The key to getting PPPOE mode is to get it out of cellular only mode which requires the master admin password which I was able to extract for the wifi 5 version, however it doesnt work for wifi6. -the-nokia-fastmile/
