Thecharacter of warfare is largely reflective of the character and changes within society and technology. The pace of changes and advancements in technology is accelerating quickly due to the convergence of a multitude of technologies. This ever-quickening pace of technological evolution means the Army must adapt and change at a speed that cannot currently be applied across the entire force. This conundrum brings about the possible efficacy of prototype warfare.
Prototype warfare is the concept of quickly developing and fielding technologies to rapidly adapt to a changing Operational Environment (OE) and emerging Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs), as well as overcoming shortcomings or challenges in manpower, capability, and reach. One hurdle to prototype warfare is a byzantine acquisition process that limits the rapid acquisition and fielding of new technologies to the force until the associated documentation has completed its circuitous trek through a multi-tiered approval process and its funding has been programmed.
But every brigade in the Army may not need that particular technology or kit. Modularity is essential in prototype warfare. For instance, when one considers the emerging discussion and heavy investment into researching exoskeletons, there are modular pieces of future exoskeletons that may be ready now and can be fielded to Army units that need it. If the heavy-lift support or burden-lessening legs portion of an exoskeleton are practically functional at this time, a unit like 10th Mountain Division could use such a technology to lessen the likelihood of muscular-skeletal injuries from heavy loads being carried during training and operations.
Combined Joint Task Force Paladin, activated to swiftly research and develop countermeasures to improvised explosive devices (IEDs), is a great example of prototype warfare. Extrapolating this generality of rapid acquisition would be beneficial to U.S. forces and could provide overmatch in niche areas.
Prototype warfare is often dismissed as something relegated to the smaller, more narrowly focused special operations forces and not applicable to conventional forces. However, if the Army is to maintain its competitive advantage and win in an increasingly contested operational environment with continually evolving technologies, it must explore the potential of prototype warfare.
Prototyping can also include force struture (and should). I would be so bold as to say that we are task organized poorly for the future, and will integrate equipment into a force structure that cannot optimize it or control it.
Excellent point. Not only mass but mass that is reconstituted quite quickly and cheaply. Additionally, the versatile nature of robotics of the future means the use of masses of drones not only for kinetic, destructive purposes but also for battlefield obscuration, deception, ISR, EW, and even sustainment.

They decide to cancel this set because one of them believed "it would not sell well". I searched for any remaining photographs which I could find of the set but I have only found these three. If you have any more available please share. It could be interesting to see the Reek in closer details. Especially to see if it has anything on the tail which I have missed.
Finally here is a edited version of the Prototype Acklay which I made using the original design. As you can see it has more mobility to it's limbs, some extra details are added and finally the color is corrected.
HAHhaha. Thank you! Yeah I have no idea why they made it blue. My only guess would be that they planned to have the Acklay in a blue color in the film but seams unlikely that they had it like that for so long. Funnily enough it's even missing it's front claws.
Shame they never made a real set of it. Maybe back then it wasn't a set that people would buy, but after all those years of sw-lego and still no geonosis arena set, i dont know, it feels like a hole in the collection. (Just like Kamino btw)
I think people would of gone for it. At least a instant-buy for me. Some of the other big scenes in the Episode 2 sets where quite lacking. Like the Anakin vs Tuskens and Yoda vs Count Dooku sets which where tiny. Yeah I agree about it being a gap in product line/collections. Yeah that's right about Kamino. I'm surprised they did not make one of the Kamino people and the flying winged creature with at least one of the towers.
Thanks for sharing. This is very interesting. I was wondering if I should hold out any hope of there ever being an official TLG arena scene release before I spent a lot of time, money and energy on a custom MOC.
Props to your brilliant Lego Ideas set as well, LegoAcklay. I'd say this scene as well as the Royal Naboo J-327 are the two most ignored-but-critical pieces of the prequel trilogy in TLG's catalog. I sure wish we got this instead of another Republic Gunship.

Hope they also eventually make something do do with the jedi temple, dark side dagobah cave, sea monsters, kamino, remake of boga, naboo palace and the mustafar seperatist base as sets eventually. Lots to expand here and there from the prequel films. Hopefully they will make something from the arena some time soon. If you make that moc I will definetly find it haha.
Sorry for the late reply! I hope so. Maybe as a line of sets like Jabba's palace or one big one. It must be done eventually. Maybe the giant Geonosis Update for battlefront 2 might help stimulate it's creation.

These prototypes may be produced at a lower cost and may only need to be operational for a short time period.
Consider the implications if a commander had the ability to select from a catalog of weapon systems while planning for a mission and they were manufactured based on her specifications. Will the ability to manufacture small quantities of customized weapon systems as needed lead to more tactical and operational success? Will rigid institutional factors prevent the widespread adoption of these radical approaches? These questions should be part of the debate on reforming the acquisition process and designing the future force.
I recently saw a post on the forum which said that the Ho-ri Prototype was previously 6.0 like the jagpanther.
Having just under 200 battles with the Ho-ri Prototype I was wondering why it was so high br (same for the production).
Whereas in 6.7 there are other much more effective vehicles such as the Ferdinand, the Jagtiger, the T95 and the Tortoise.
These vehicles all performed better than the Ho-ri prototype and similar to the production version.
Well is expected from Gaijin to sell something and nerf it later on with 0 consideration Ho-Ri prototype has no place at 6.7 and is outgunned and armor is a joke with recent buffs for US and Rus ammo they pen you with no aim at the upper structure.
