Drought conditions quickly coming to Georgia. Will predicted rain help? Here's what to know

The National Weather Service in Atlanta has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for north and central Georgia, warning residents to remain alert as dry conditions persist alongside the potential for isolated thunderstorms in the days ahead.
While rainfall has been scarce across much of the region, forecasters say there is a possibiliy of scattered storms, some of which may become strong.

Rain in Georgia this week
The weather outlook said that Tuesday will bring isolated thunderstorms across parts of north Georgia between noon and 9:00 p.m.
The outlook further includes the possibility of additional isolated thunderstorm activity on Wednesday, Sunday, and Monday.

What is rapid onset drought?
A lack of rain is causing drought to develop quickly over a short period of time, the National Weather Service said. Much of the western portion of the state is at risk.
"Without widespread soaking rains, drought conditions may rapidly develop across portions of north and central Georgia."
