The next phase of the Johnson Rocks project will begin next week.
Crews will used a construction barge to facilitate the placement of the large rocks as part of the St. Simons Island Shoreline Revetment Phase II project.
The work will take place along the shoreline west of the St. Simons Island fishing pier. The work supports ongoing efforts to strengthen erosion protection and reinforce coastal infrastructure, county officials said.
Residents and visitors may notice temporary work zones, equipment positioned near the water’s edge, and barge activity close to the shoreline as barge-mounted crews continue placing the stones.
A barge will remain anchored offshore when not in active use, and will move into position during stone placement operations.
Construction is expected to last about two weeks, with barge demobilization expected by March 13, weather permitting.
Public access will remain open, though minor adjustments may be necessary to maintain safety around active work zones.
County officials ask residents and visitors to use caution, stay clear of construction equipment, and follow posted signage or temporary access changes.
The work is considered essential in supporting long-term shoreline stability, reducing erosion and protecting public infrastructure along the St. Simons Island coastline.
