March of Faith in Athens to protest federal crackdown on immigrants
Athens Banner-Herald
Athens area faith-based organizations are planning a march on Sunday, Sept. 21, in Athens in response to the arrests and deportations of immigrants taking place across the U.S. by the federal government.
Those participating in the March of Faith in Resistance to Mass Deportations will gather at 595 Prince Ave. at 2 p.m. to begin the march that will proceed to the U.S. Courthouse located on Hancock Avenue in downtown Athens.
At the courthouse, speakers will make remarks, and then participants will march back to Prince Avenue.

“This is not a political event. It is an expression of our faith,” Greg Davis said in a statement released about the march.
Davis is chair of the Interfaith Sanctuary Coalition, which is co-sponsoring the march. “We are called to stand in moral opposition to the repression and intimidation of our immigrant friends and neighbors.”
The march is also sponsored by the Interfaith Clergy Partnership of Greater Athens, an organization that builds relationships with religious leaders in the area.
