Welcome aboard! This is a list of public meetings and agendas to help you follow the work of officials you’ve elected.

Paying for an attorney hired by voters

Counties fund district attorneys’ offices but cannot fire a DA if they’re very unhappy with the person the voters chose. Short of a criminal case, only voters can oust a state elected official.

That tension between people who all have an electoral mandate is playing out in southeast Georgia, where five counties have called for the resignation of their prosecutor, Brunswick Judicial Circuit District Attorney Keith Higgins, as first reported by The Current GA’s Jabari Gibbs. Glynn, Camden, Wayne, Appling and Jeff Davis counties want Higgins to go, after auditors found poor recordkeeping and financial oversight in an office that’s stopped prosecuting some cases for lack of money.  Higgins says he’s not resigning and that the employees responsible for that poor recordkeeping are gone.

To see what your county, or city or school board is funding or fighting, check out their public meeting agendas, watch a meeting online or drop by in person.  We’re covering about 50 agencies, two weeks at a time, and counting. Let us know how we’re doing and how you use this list at st...@thecurrentga.org.

This list starts with an automated collection that does not involve AI. It is checked and edited by a human. But agencies may announce new meetings, change meeting times or cancel them, sometimes without any online notice. Some publish calendars in more than one place with different information.  Some rely on Facebook posts which may require a login to read and cannot be collected automatically.

You may want to call ahead and verify the meeting time and place, especially for smaller agencies.
