Frankly I am glad to see you go, anyone who is going to say "do things
how *I* want or I am leaving" is not someone I want apart of this
project.  The forums don't even get posted on much so really it isn't
hard to figure out what you have or have not read.

for everyone else, if you don't like how something is done, feel free to
express your concern, but have some tact about it,  whining like this
won't get anything changed.

one of the reasons we have moved to the forums is because the email groups was having some issues with posting

This was in response to:

I have been interested in this project, and have been following it
from the start.

But I am annoyed by this decision. The mailing list format (especially
with gmail auto-applying labels and such) is MUCH, MUCH more useful
and _efficient_ than having to wade through web-based forums, trying
to remember what you have and haven't read.

If you must use web-based forums, then having a forum/mailing list
hybrid would be ideal (what gets posted/sent to one, gets cc'd to the
other). But I guess that is not going to happen....

Pity. I don't think I have time to waste wading through a forum
looking for new posts....

On the bright side (for you), I don't really have much I can offer the
project anyway. I am/was just an interested outsider.

Good luck with the project,
-sm.

it was sent out on email but never posted on google groups, as somthing
is messed up about it

Journeyman: sm prefers Google Groups. And just because of that
you tell him you're glad to see him go ? ? ?

Why not instead tell him about the e-mail notification that
the web forum can send? In personal settings you can make the
forum notify you by e-mail whenever anything is posted. It's
quite close to what he wanted!

In my opinion, attitudes like "frankly I'm glad to see you go"
should be reserved for cases of serious misbehavior. They will
always create a cold and unwelcoming atmosphere in the forums.
And I don't think you can get a good bazaar if the atmosphere
is cold.

To sm, and to everybody: I'd really appreciate it if you'll
help test my prototype, once it's ready (which I hope will
be reasonably soon). You don't need to be any kind of expert.
The help that I'll need most is that as many people as possible
simply install and run the prototype. This way I can find out
how well the prototype frogs communicate in large groups, and
gather statistics that are needed for the continued development.

When the prototype is ready I'll post the news in both places,
in our Google Groups and in our website forum. So, for this
purpose you can use whichever one you prefer. I recommend
that you set whichever one you prefer to send you e-mail.

(Personally I've set both to send me e-mail.)

Even if our day-to-day discussions occur only in the web forum,
my guess is that all major news will be posted in both places.

So please don't go away!

I get 45 to 50 spams per day. I have been patiently waiting to hear
that you need people to test your prototype. I can give you lots of
spam to help you out.

Thanks, and Aloha

Watcherduck, a good program that should help you "stave it off" is
called KnuJon. You can find out about it at
http://knujon.com/knujon.html, and sign up for beta testing at
http://knujon.com/personal.html. It's not Okopipi, but it's a good
cause nonetheless.
