こんいちわ！わたしは日本語がすこしだけわかります。　I am interested in checking out Okinawa SHDH
on December 3, but I wanted to know if it is OK if I can only speak a
little Japanese. I don't know many people here with similar interests
so it would be nice to make some new friends and hopefully learn more
Japanese too.

I am Yohei, one of members in Okinawa SHDH.

I'm able to speak Japanese and English as a second language. 

So, I think I can help you to understand what Okinawa SHDH is

It will be okay, of course :) 

But I don't think all people here can speak English as well,

and this group uses Japanese as a main language as you know.

So, you may feel some difficulties in getting information in English.

But don't mind. I will translate them if needed.

Well, if you have any other questions, please post it to this mailing list.

It will help to understand about Okinawa SHDH for not only you but also 

those who are interested in it but not familiar with Japanese.

I will answer them as possible as I can.

Yohei-san,

That's great!  I actually discovered Okinawa SHDH searching for Ruby on Rails development in Okinawa.  I am currently doing some Django work for Japan Update, but I've always enjoyed working with RoR although it's been a few years since I've used it.  Most of my development experience has been self-taught (I've been programming since I was 9 and started with BASIC) so I'm sure I'm not a very good developer, but I'm always trying to learn more and improve.  My main job has usually been Windows system administration and sometimes a little bit of Linux administration too (I enjoy the Linux side of things a lot more), but programming has never been a major part of any job I've had with the exception of Japan Update which is just side work I'm doing right now.

Even though I can only speak a little bit of Japanese, I can sometimes pick up on what people are talking about; I just don't know enough to respond or hold a conversation.  If my understanding of SHDH is correct, it seems like a good opportunity for me to learn more Japanese, learn more about different projects and technologies, and interact with people who have similar interests.  If there is more I should know before coming, please let me know.

I understand I should bring my laptop, but should I bring anything else with me when I come?  Donation?  Snacks/drinks?  I'm looking forward to learning more about SHDH and meeting everyone!

Yes, I am pretty sure I understand the outline and I just registered on the event page. Of course, I don't expect anyone to speak English just because of me, but I do appreciate that you would try. I am the one who needs to learn more Japanese and I will try my best to speak it :)

Oh wow!  Yes, that's very useful, thank you!  I just found out about SHDH today so I don't really have anything fancy to show off (unless people really want to see some incomplete stuff I've been doing with jQuery, Twitter's Bootstrap framework, and Django), but I'm very excited to learn from others and meet everyone.

今週末実施予定の SHDH3 ですが、随時入館可能とする方向で考えてます。

1F 正面玄関の横にある扉は開放することが可能ですので
駐車場側からは裏になりますが、こちらから入館して頂く形をと考えております。
また、5F エレベーターホールについても常時開放する形をとりますので
13:00 以降であればいつでもお越し頂いて構いません。

一応、正面玄関から紙か何かでエレベータホールまでの経路を
貼っておこうと思ってます。
