OKD 4.5 haproxy customization

The route annotation haproxy.router.openshift.io/rewrite-target is apparently only available from 4.6

For now im stuck running on 4.5 but i do need this feature.

What would be the best way to get this functionality in my setup ?

Is there a way to change the template thats being used here ?

Any modification i try to do to the router deploy gets reverted by (i guess) the ingress operator.
