Ruby Ann Boxcar named Grand Marshal of OKC Pride Celebration
(Oklahoma City – May 18, 2009 --) OKC Pride, Inc. is proud to present
Author and TV Personality Ruby Ann Boxcar, the Queen of Everything
Trailer Park, as the official Grand Marshal for OKC Pride 2009 to be
held June 26-28.
Ruby Ann, known as the Diva of the Double-wide, is a highly successful
entertainer and author who got her start in Oklahoma City. From the
High Chaparral Trailer Park in Pangburn, Ark., all the way to
Hollywood and Las Vegas, Ruby Ann has traveled across the country
sharing her down-home humor, stories and recipes with audiences of
thousands. Her side-splitting brand of comedy will be a show stopper.
You can visit her website at
http://www.myspace.com/rubyannboxcar.
Ruby Ann will also be seen at the block party on June 26, as well as
at the festival on June 27 and 28. She will also be in the parade on
June 28.
OKC Pride weekend will begin June 26 with a Block Party on 39th Street
near Pennsylvania Ave. from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. The show and
entertainment will begin at 7:30 p.m.
“Entertainment will include our Grand Marshal Ruby Ann Boxcar, local
drag queens and female impersonators, performers, bands and DJs,”
Scott Jaggers, Block Party Coordinator said. “One band that is
confirmed is Romantic Disaster.”
Jaggers said the event will be geared towards the adult crowd of the
LGBT community.
“We will be selling ice-cold beer in one area of the Block Party, but
we will be providing wristbands to identify those 21 and over,” he
said. “The event will be open to all in the community, but to make
sure laws are followed, only those who are 21 or over will be allowed
in the area of the block party where the beer is served.”
The annual Pride Festival will be held at Memorial Park at NW 36th and
Classen Blvd all day Saturday, June 27 and part of the day on Sunday,
June 28. Along with several vendors, information booths, catching some
sun, enjoying the surroundings and the amazing entertainment, Sally
Blevins will again host the highly successful pet contest. More
information about the Festival and the Pet Contest will be available
closer to the Pride Celebration.
“Everyone is welcome at the two-day Festival,” TJ McKinsey, Festival
Coordinator said. “Every year more and more families and individuals
attend our highly-visible party. It is our goal to make this a family-
friendly event where all walks of life would feel welcome to come out
and enjoy themselves.”
The weekend crescendos with the 22nd Annual Pride Parade starting at 5
p.m. This colorful and very popular event steps off from NW 36th and
Classen near Memorial Park and goes to NW 44th and Classen before
making a u-turn back towards NW 39th. The parade will then proceed
west down NW 39th towards Pennsylvania. It will end at the 39th Street
Strip near NW 39th and Barnes, Chris Plante, Parade Coordinator said.
“We are very excited about this year’s parade as more and more entries
are added every day,” Plante said. “Having Ruby Ann Boxcar here for
our event is amazing and we look forward to cresting the hill on NW
39th Street to see the thousands of people who gather at NW 39th and
Penn. That is a feeling that very few people get to experience. It
just swells with pride.”
Other events that are not sponsored by OKC Pride, Inc. will be going
on that week as well. There will be a “Gay Day” at the Oklahoma City
Zoo to be announced at a later date and the Church of the Open Arms
will be hosting a movie night on Thursday, June 26. Several other
events across the community will be going on as well.
