I still don't completely understand how to integrate Eclipse RCP apps
with Maven.

Has anyone seen this:

http://maven.apache.org/plugins/maven-eclipse-plugin/pde.html
http://mojo.codehaus.org/pde-maven-plugin/

Can we use this maven plugin to build our RCP apps? Or is the
customized Tycho solution still preferred
(http://code.google.com/p/okapi/wiki/MavenAndM2eclipse)?

Here are some recent good words about Maven 3.0 and Tycho (though the
alpha status still bothers me):

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2340898/using-maven-to-build-an-eclipse-plugin-latest-opinions

I would like to start running the workbench code in the sandbox and
currently that is impossible because its not integrated with our build
system.

Anyone have time to figure out the best practice for setting all this up?

I was looking a bit at how the eGit project in eclipse is built. This project is conceptually similar to ours, where we have a core 'library' (jGit) which is built using maven2 or maven3, and the rcp parts which are built using maven3 and tycho.

List over other projects built with tycho:

excellent we now have some real projects to learn from - Dan and I
will follow up on this and get something similar set up for the
workbench
