Hi all,
I am investigating on an issue regarding a PPTX document where the merged document triggers an "unreadable file" warning when opened with PowerPoint 365 (LibreOffice opens it without problems), it then prompts to repair the file and upon review all the translated content seems to be there.

How can I troubleshoot this? Is there a way to access the PowerPoint logs, if any, to see what it complains about?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hi Alessandro,

I think you have hit into yet another PowerPoint "point of view", which deviates from the spec (LibreOffice tries to be in compliance with it and supports MS Office products at the same time).

I am afraid, there is no "a one for all cases recipe". So, I will only share what worked for me.

I usually compare original and translated document parts with the help of a diff tool and look for any suspicious markup changes (this may require a bit deeper knowledge of PPTX file format, though). And in this regard, the set of filter parameters, input and output languages can narrow the focus to some extent.

Another approach could be to perform a round-trip of the original file at different relevant commits and see whether the merged document structure complies with PowerPoint expectations... When an affecting commit is found, digest the changes and understand the "why" behind them, find out what can be improved.

Hope this would be helpful.

Denis
