CHOCTAW, Okla. —
Police say four people were shot during Choctaw High School’s home
football game Friday night at Bill Jensen Field.

Shots rang out around 10:15 p.m. Friday during the Choctaw-Del City game
near Northeast 10th Street and Henney Road. Choctaw Police Chief Kelly
Marshall said four people were shot.

One of the victims was taken to a hospital, where they were treated and
released for a wound to their thigh. Marshall also said at least one of
the victims was a student.

Information about the other three victims’ conditions is unknown. Police
have not released any other details about the victims.

Police said they do not have a suspect in custody and believe the shooter
took off.

Del City Police Chief Loyd Berger said an officer discharged their weapon
during the incident. He did not release any other details about that shot
being fired.

David Reid and Rick Cobb, the superintendents of Choctaw-Nicoma Park
Schools and Mid-Del Schools, released a joint statement saying, "Our
thoughts and prayers go out to all affected by tonight’s incident. Both
districts are working jointly with the police presence from Choctaw, Del
City, and Oklahoma County in an ongoing investigation. The police will
provide further details as they become available."

Skordle.TV’s live coverage of the game showed the moments when shots were
fired. The video shows players running from the field and others getting
on the ground. Everyone on the field was OK.

Mark Rodgers, who was covering the game for The Sports Animal, told KOCO 5
that he heard the shots ring out with less than five minutes left in the
third quarter, stopping the game. He said the incident started in the
northeast corner of the stadium with Del City players running. Choctaw
High School players also ran off the field.

“The panic kind of came in waves after the initial shots. Just a scary
situation,” Rodgers reported.

The game was the first of the season for both teams as several schools
across Oklahoma played in Week 0 action on Thursday and Friday.
