It should be noted that the Tulsa World reported the incident
similarly but listed the Okie Mom's hometown as Foyil, OK and the case
is being handled by the Rogers County District Court...

The Associated Press
TULSA -- A 7-year-old boy was hospitalized after drinking lye meant
for making methamphetamine and his mother was jailed on drug and child

Yes, it is a horrid state of affairs and one far too often repeated in
Oklahoma as one Okie Mom(tm) after another puts their children at risk
through the production, use or distribution of meth and other illicit
drugs.
> reminds me,one of my younger friends moved back to california last year
>but before doing so structured a tulsa photo album. the first page of this
>album? a tulsa world article stating some crack down on meth, underneath he
>scrawled:tulsa,ok; meth capital of th world. at the time there was some
>crackdown story in the paper every day. sad that any place has such a rep
>that something like that is what stands out.
The sad truth about meth in Oklahoma and Tulsa in particular is that
it's one of the few escapes available for those that consider their
life so miserable that they simply don't care about anything but
'escape'.
Unless/until society here actually does something to improve the lot
of the Average Okie(tm) there's going to be many, many more Okie Moms
and Dads(tm) endangering their kids in exchange for a cheap high to
escape the realities of life.
Blowing goats is simply NOT an acceptable life style for most people.
They will find a way, any way, to escape...

For me, pay is not the primary issue, it's the fact that I am expected to do
the impossible ( I have seven subjects to prepare for daily, and I have no
homogenous classes at all--i.e. half my students are doing one subject while
the other half are doing another), and my department is treated like shit
at the school where I work. I'd work for less money if I was allowed the
resources I needed, my students were not treated like lepers, and I was not
talked to like I was a retarded sea sponge.

To be called an 'Oklahoma Hater' by the goat blowers is a badge of
honor to be worn proudly.
If the Goat Blowing Okie Thinkers(tm) had a lick of common sense they
would realize that they have made Oklahoma what it is.
A state where divorce, teen birth, crime, illiteracy, incarceration,
methamphetamine production, STD and bankruptcy rates are
at or near the highest in the nation and where spending for
common education, public health and jobs training is at or near the
lowest in the nation. Yet in their proud ignorance they rant and rave
about how "Oklahoma is OK?" as they pass the goat from one to the
other.
>if tulsa encouraged job
>growth and did something about wages there would be a higher caliber of
>employee which would attract better jobs which would bring in money to allow
>roads to be fixed properly, etc.if the state paid teachers more they would

>COULD be a nice place to live if any or all of that was done or hell, even
>attempted at.
The key to fixing the ills of Tulsa and Oklahoma in general is
education. Sure it will cost money, a lot of money, to bring
Oklahoma's schools up to par with the national average and it will
cost a bunch more to make them better than average.
Until the citizens of Oklahoma realize there's something better than a
life spent blowing goats it isn't going to happen. Once the education
level and quality of the Average Okie(tm) even shows signs of
improving, better jobs will start coming into the state. As more good
jobs are created, the increased tax revenues can be poured into
further improvements in education, infrastructure and services to
further improve our standing. It's a chicken/egg scenario and until
there's a well educated and motivated labor pool available the good
jobs will keep going elsewhere.

The greatest failure in Oklahoma is the desire for the cheap and quick
fix. Time and again we rush out to buy band-aids to address our many
problems, when only major surgery stands a chance of making the
patient whole.
If kids are to ultimately become productive members of society, rather
than a drain on society they must be viewed as *an investment* by
society. This means they must be educated, protected and nurtured as
they are our future. Currently many, well hell - most, of the kids of
Oklahoma that grow into productive members of society 'bug out' the
first chance they get and who can blame them for not wanting to stick
around a place that ranks at or near the bottom in just about every
'quality of life' measurement.
If this 'brain drain' is to be reversed kids must be taught that they
not only can but should make a difference. They need to see with
their own eyes improvements that will make *their lives* better, not
only as they are growing up but that will do likewise once they are
adults. If this is done, then there will be an inducement for more
young people to stay in and continue to improve Oklahoma instead of
beating a retreat to the Civilized States(tm), taking with them their
talent, taxes and contributions to society.
