Moderating messages from new members

Hi all,

I have enabled moderation for messages from new members. This isn't an
especially high-traffic list, and I would like to be able to block
spam before it reaches your inboxes. As many people have pointed out
recently, Google Groups has a serious—perhaps fatal—spam problem, so
any suggestions for alternatives would be welcome.
