I joined the Union the year the ASAE could no longer kidnap my ATA credentials and hold them hostage to force me to attend conferences. I am still ambivalent after six years, but the thing does very little evil so far. It does try to endorse candidates without naming the party, which is dishonest, but the thing does not seem to be a corporate vampire enslavement pit. It is free so far, and non intrusive, nonobtrusive, and not obnoxious. I normally regard labor unions as tentacles of soviet or nationalsocialist enslavement conspiracies every bit as bad as the American Society of Association Executives, so having withstood the acid test all this time, it's prolly not all bad.

I dinnae know if U have to join to see it but it exists and is better than anything since Jane Meier's contract of two decades ago.

p.s. Abrates, the Brazilian Translators Association some 300 strong, has recognized all my ATA credentials, so even if the ASAE decrees they be kidnapped for ransom tomorrow, I am safe for a decade. Thelma has done this as well.
