"Anglo-Mexican Petroleum Company", the one with the cute Swastikas, went to great lengths trying to distance the symbol from nationalsocialism--to the point of publishing a chart of vaguely similar icons from all over the world--rather than realize the idea was never going to be anything but dumb even if they'd gotten there first. This goes a long way toward explaining how Microsoft can come up with abortions like Vista and the ribbon they used to strangle the Word processor into uselessness and never for a second consider it was a dumb move from which a retreat was in order. With any luck they will be carved up like Standard Oil or hailed into bankruptcy court.
