It is startling the amount of time that can go into a single expression, and still no guarantee that it is correct. Still, at 

engine flat: plataforma da praça de máquinas

is listed bigger'n Dallas, giving support to Jonas' and my own agreement that this is a likely translation. Someday we hope to find it in a shipbuilding book. 

The winning search was: 
"praça de máquinas" flat

This also turned up BOILER FLAT, ESTRADO DA CALDEIRA in 
Despite the odd name, it appears to be a normal spreadsheet.

Eu confiaria mais no dicionário: engine flat = plataforma do motor.

I like plataforma do motor because it is what we guessed. There are other good translations in the spreadsheet, and some typos (OND for END). Não é lá nenhuma Oxford.
