Greetings,

We just received input from Unified Command regarding the kinds of
fields which they would like to see as a baseline for data collection
for Oil Reporter. I have attached the form to this group in the
documents section as well as in this posting.

Unified Command is happy to have a conference call on these
requirements. Perhaps this could be the beginning of a data standards
weekly conference call between the Commons, response organizations and
Unified Command?

Let's take some time to review over the next day and propose a call
over the weekend if possible.

A reminder, we will be using Oil Reporter Google group for
conversations regarding requirements and such. So be sure to join the
group.

Best,
Heather

Hi Guys,

Let me know how we can move this forward to get the updated fields in Oil Reporter.  What do we need to do to move forward on this?

A few comments (hopefully not premature here):

- These are fields that are most useful from a Unified Command perspective, but possibly overkill for general public use. Perhaps Basic and Advanced tabs are in order.

- Case in point: Beach Numbers help the National Guard identify sections of the beach (e.g. drop those supplies off at Section 14). The average person probably wouldn't know which beach number their own (though that could be automated!). Also, once a beach has a section number it's closed off to the public (so far).

- Oil Type and Oil Distribution will need to be supported by an example or two. Even I wouldn't know how to rate the Oil Distribution I saw Friday on Grand Isle.

- I can't remember if there was a warning when I first installed Oil Reporter, but it will get better government/BP acceptance if we include warnings saying not to touch the oil, attempt to clean it up yourself, etc. There are huge liability fears right now.

Hi Chris,

I like the idea of a basic and advanced tab.  And yes, we definitely want to have the appropriate warnings in place to not touch the oil or wildlife. In terms of examples, perhaps we can have more detailed examples on the website.
