Hi all,

If any of you will be in Washington for the World Bank/IMF Spring Meetings in April (or are already in Washington!), this important conference will take place immediately after the Meetings. The event is mainly oriented towards US organizations, but we would welcome more international participation. Please help spread the word.

Thanks,

The Impacts of Climate Change

on International Development

A Conference Sponsored by:

Friends of the Earth, ActionAid International USA,

Oxfam America, Heinrich Boell Foundation, Jubilee USA Network,

Oil Change International, and Center for American Progress

Global warming is already threatening developing countries with increasingly severe weather events, droughts, and other natural disasters, often hitting the most impoverished people hardest.  Climate change will cause rapid changes in food production, increased water scarcity, and the spread of disease, exacerbating poverty and seriously hampering international development efforts.

This conference will address how climate change will affect development and humanitarian work, including:

  • Does the United States have a responsibility to address global warming as a development issue?
  • How will climate change affect specific development and humanitarian efforts and achievement of the Millennium Development Goals?
  • How can climate change impacts be incorporated into development and humanitarian work?
  • What impacts will climate change have on the ability of impoverished communities, women and others to realize their basic rights?

Please join us for this important event!
