The Climate Action Network (CAN), a worldwide network of over 365 Non-
Governmental Organizations (NGOs), sent a letter this afternoon to G8
Environment Ministers and Sherpas calling on the G8 to, among other things:
"commit to start a complete phase out of public financing for fossil fuel
operations and oil aid and ensure that International Financial
Institutions, such as the World Bank, become leaders in investing in the energy
future, based on renewable energies and energy efficiency."
G8 Environment Ministers are scheduled to meet in
Potsdam next Thursday and this year's G8 Summit in June is likely to have energy
and climate issues as a central part of its agenda. Let me know if you are
interested in a copy of the letter.
Thanks,
