Hello, Room-Formerly-Known-as-16 Parents

Happy New Year to everyone.

I know you're all excited to participate in the upcoming Lice Check, this Friday, January 6, 2012 at 8am!

We will be offering an optional aromatherapy component this year, to make the check more spa-like and enjoyable for the kids.

Each parent volunteer will be awarded token thank-you gifts:  a 2012 Tesla Roadster and vacation home in Tuscany.*

It's the usual drill: no elaborate hair-do's and no gel, please.

See you on Friday!

—Heidi

* This is a joke, sorry. But you will definitely get everyone's sincere thanks.

Hello!
Please include these announcements in your next news update to your classrooms, preferably by Friday.
Thanks, Trina

FROM the TRAFFIC SAFETY COMMITTEE:

Bringing Up Bicyclists

On Monday, April 23, Ohlone's Traffic Safety Team and the City of Palo Alto's Safe Routes to School will host a Bringing Up Bicyclists class for parents from 7-8:30 pm in the Ohlone Library.  Parents will learn how to teach their children age-appropriate skills for safe and (eventually) independent bicycling.  Drivers will learn tips for driving safely around bicyclists.  Everyone is guaranteed to learn something useful at this parent ed event taught by Suzanne Ambiel, League of American Bicyclists Certified Instructor.  It is free and open to all PAUSD parents, so invite your friends!

Walk and Roll to Ohlone Day
Wednesday, April 25, will be the launch date for weekly Walk and Roll to School Days, promoting the Traffic Safety Team's "One Less Car" message.  Families can participate by using foot-powered modes of transportation (such as walking, biking, and scootering) to school, carpooling, or parking at further locations such as Greer Park and walking the rest of the way to school.  PAUSD Board Member Dana Tom, Principal Bill, Ohlone Student Council members, and the Traffic Safety Team will be greeting and encouraging children and parents.  Coffee and treats provided on Apr 25 by the Hospitality Team (be green- bring your own mug!).  During the rest of April and May, Walk and Roll to Ohlone every Wednesday because with One Less Car, the streets will be safer for us all, the earth will be happy, and it is more fun!
