this Friday

Thanks for letting us pass out
t-shirts and party packets in
your classrooms today. Nice to
see smiling faces and a sea of
blue t-shirts!
I'm forwarding this email which
was sent on 5/5 and contained
the permission slip for Friday's
middle school visits
(attached).
Each class/room parent is
organizing their own drivers
(but may want to consider
overlapping with other
classrooms if not many kids are
going - maybe Terman or
Jordan?).
Thanks.

Middle School visitation.
On Friday May 20th, 5th grade
students attending PAUSD
middle schools next year can
visit their middle school from
10:15-12:15 (approx). For
your convenience and that of
your teacher, we have attached
a field trip permission slip.
Please print, fill it out,
sign it, and return to your
5th grader's teacher by
Friday, May 13. Please
indicate on the bottom if you
are able to drive and how many
children you can take. If
your child is not attending
JLS, Jordan, or Terman next
year, please let your child's
teacher know she/he will not
be visiting one of the middle
schools. Your child will stay
at Ohlone with the 4th
graders.
Class Gift. Drum roll
please.... If you didn't hear
from your child last week, the
5th graders have selected a
class gift of a mural for the
school! Morgan, from Murals
by Morgan will be coming to
Ohlone on April 10th or 11th
at lunchtime to brainstorm
with the 5th graders. She'll
then do 3 mock up drawings and
come back the following week
at lunchtime and the kids will
pick their favorite. During
the first week of June, the
mural will be painted in 2
days while the kids are at
school. 5th grade parents
Laura Wingard and Jane
Bloomsmith have helped guide
the 5th graders through the
process of selecting a gift -
first soliciting ideas from
all 5th graders, then
narrowing down to 5 choices
that were appropriate (hippo
for the farm, a slurpee
machine and a water slide were
nixed). Last, the 5th graders
were able to vote. The mural
idea was selected over
planting trees, providing
soccer goals and extra balls,
buying bean bag chairs for the
library and donating the money
raised to the school.
T-shirts. Class
t-shirts (which look great!)
will be given to your 5th
grader in a few weeks with
printed information about the
class promotion party. Thanks
to 5th grade parents Eleanor
Lin for taking on this process
and Riki Morita for creating a
new fabulous design. During
voting for the class gift,
kids were also able to vote on
a t-shirt color. Please write
your child's name on the tag
when it comes home! We hope
that they will wear their
t-shirt to the Spring Fling
and of course to the softball
game and promotion party on
June 9th.
Spring Fling. Saturday
May 21st, 4-7pm. Katie
Strohmayer and Shaul Hurwitz
will be helping to coordinate
the ice cream sale fundraiser
for the class gift. The
emphasis will be on the kids
being involved in all aspects
of raising money for their
class gift: sales, marketing,
service and accounting. In
addition, we will need many
parents to help with this
fundraiser (a couple of
parents to purchase ice cream,
4-6 parents to help set up the
booth, and 4-6 to work as
advisers during sales).
Please volunteer to help in
some way if you are able. By
this time, we should have the
final mock up of the mural on
display for all to see.
Should be a fun night.
Yearbook pages. Thanks
to all who have turned in
their yearbook pages and to
Annie Bedichek for
coordinating this project!
Promotion Party. In a
few weeks your child will
bring home his/her t-shirt and
information about the
promotion party. Please
consider volunteering to help
at the party (11:30-3:30 on
the last day of school).
Thanks.
