We received the sorrowful news that, not only was the Hancock Horizontal Hundred bicycle tour canceled, but that the hosting club, the venerable Hancock Handlebars (Findlay, Ohio) will be disbanding at the end of this year. The ride was the high point of the year for many of us: a fast, flat century ride expertly run, with hundreds of fellow riders out enjoying an early autumn day. The club was a generous supporter of the Ohio Bicycle Events Calendar. Here's the official club statement:
It is with great disappointment that we are announcing that this will be the last version of the Hancock Horizontal Hundred hosted by the Hancock
Handlebars Bicycle Club. We were prepared in every way to host a super
50th Annual HHH where we could all gather and share memories. That was
not to be. Like most things in our lives, these plans have been
disrupted by Covid 19. The Hancock Horizontal
Hundred model of bike ride requires a lot of effort and cost to create
the unique branding, routes and offerings that you have become
accustomed to from our ride. To make our ride financially
feasible we need around 500 riders each year. The proliferation of
smaller donor supported rides over the last decade, among other things,
has had a real effect on our rider turnout. We will also be closing the
club at the end of this year.
