Here we are at the beginning of October. The month is starting out with a fine weather weekend and some excellent riding opportunities for Ohio cyclists. Take a look....

Friday – Sunday, 10/3 – 10/5. KCBO: KNOX COUNTY BIKETOBERFEST. Mt. Vernon. New this year, KCBO will be a “festival style” weekend featuring two to three days of cycling loops, with multiple distance and difficulty options to meet any cyclist’s goals. Route offerings of 25 – 60 miles and one century, flat to very hilly, are planned. Knox County hosts the most beautiful sections of the flat Ohio-to-Erie Trail. Tent, trailer, or hotel lodging. Saturday, 10/4. 22nd GARRETT WONDERS BIRTHDAY BIKE RIDE. Warren. Ride the Garrett Wonders Bike Trail, the Western Reserve Greenway and surrounding roads, and see Trumbull County in its fall splendor on routes of 6/20/30/50 mostly flat miles!  Ride is fully supported with SAG service, cookie stops, sandwiches and chips at ride’s end, tee shirt, goody bags, door prizes and a basket raffle. Lots of fun for everyone! Money raised for the Garrett Wonders Memorial Fund for Scholarships and to support cycling advocacy.  LTJg Garrett Wonders was killed by a careless driver. Saturday, 10/4. GREENE COUNTY MORNING MILERS. Xenia or Beavercreek. Join the Greene County Trail Sentinels for a free morning ride along the county’s bike trails! All rides leave from either the Xenia Station bike hub or from Beavercreek Community Park. Rides start at 9 a.m. and finish around 11 a.m. These rides are not for the beginner skill level and may include a short, off-trail portion with an average of 25-35 flat miles at 15-17 mph. Saturday – Saturday, 10/4 – 10/11. 2nd OETA: OHIO ERIE TRAIL ADVENTURE – FALL. Cincinnati to Cleveland. Travels the stunning 326-mile trail that links the Ohio River in Cincinnati to Lake Erie in Cleveland, over mostly rail-trail and canal paths, through four big cities, numerous small towns, and plenty of rural areas. Covers 45 to 70 miles per day. The journey starts with a dipping of back tires in the Ohio River under Cincinnati’s historic Roebling Suspension Bridge in Smale Park. Riders then travel northward, enjoying the beautiful landscapes, until reaching Lake Erie. Front tires then are dipped in Lake Erie waters. Columbus Outdoor Pursuits. 1193 S. A reminder... OBF is seeking a replacement for long-time Calendar editor James Guilford who will end his service in that capacity at the end of this year. The volunteer position includes collecting cycling event information from hosts, organizing and editing listings into a consistent format, and publishing the guide in an online medium. Print publication of the Calendar is paused, possibly permanently. If interested, please contact Guilford via the OBEC website.
