The Ohio Civil War Symposium is for Ohio University alumni and anyone interested in the history of the civil war.

The Presenters

The keynote lecture is “Sheridan’s Ride at Cedar Creek,” a Union victory that ended the Confederate threat to Washington, D.C.

The Sherman House Museum in Lancaster, Ohio, is the birthplace of General William Tecumseh Sherman, his younger brother U.S. Senator John Sherman and home of the remarkable Sherman family.
Symposium Program

9:30 to 9:45 a.m.: Registration at Sherman House Museum

9:45 to 11 a.m.: Welcome and Panel on Ohio and the Civil War, featuring Ohio University history faculty:

Dr. Katherine Jellison, Professor and Chair of History at Ohio University, “The Imprint of War on the Ohio Homefront”
Dr. Brian Schoen, Associate Professor of History at Ohio University, “Ohio’s Internal War”

11 to 11:15 a.m.: Refreshment Break

11:15-noon: Keynote Lecture, “Sheridan’s Ride at Cedar Creek,” with Dr. Mark Grimsley, Associate Professor of History at Ohio State University
