to Ohio in the Civil War
I am transcribing a series of letters written by a soldier of the 67th Reg Co F of the Ohio Volunteer Infantry. In one of the letters he mentions to his wife that there is financial aid to wives of the soldiers. The part I am having an issue with is he indicates she should contact someone in town that will determine if she qualifies. I cannot read this section of the letter due to fading and am not able to tell who this official is.... {Auditor, trustee ?) He indicates that there is a tax collected for this purpose.
I am hoping someone else has came across this and has better knowledge than I have been able to find searching the internet.

Thanks

Some towns or cities allocated funds to help support the needy families of soldiers. The needy person needed to apply to some official to get the money. Also some members of the community would raise money to help needy families of soldiers. You may want to obtain a copy of the following article to learn more. https://www.jstor.org/stable/10.5378/indimagahist.113.1.0048?seq=1#page_scan_tab_contents
I believe Cincinnati helped soldiers families but do not have a reference for you.

Many were helped by the Military Committee of the district that the regiment was raised in.  An example is the 93rd OVI from the 4th Military District (Butler, Montgomery & Preble counties in Ohio)  Some records do exist good luck in your search.

Thanks for your answer !  That helps, I am still trying to enhance the scanned image. Your answer seems to be closest to what I am looking for.
