to Ohio in the Civil War
Bob--
There are 179 entries for men named William Davis in the Official
Roster of Ohio units, so it will take a little work to narrow it
down!
First, did the information with the photograph that you looked at
include a unit identification?
Second, do you know if Mr. Davis had and used a middle initial?
Third, when you indicate that he was from Mahoning County, do you know
if he lived there after the war as well?
These questions should help narrow down your search, and suggest some
sources to use.
Rick Baumgartner's Buckeye Blood: Ohio at Gettysburg includes a photo
of 1st Sgt William B. Davis, 73rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Company E,
who was wounded on July 2. He is identified as being from Williamsport
in Pickaway County, south of Columbus, so this may not be the right
person.
Thanks,
Dan Reigle
