My great great grandfather was Aide de Camp to a Union General.  William A. Bailey was in the 3rd Independent Battery Ohio Light Artillery.  In his certificate and medals no information has been known relative to which General he served.  His term was from 1861 - 1865.  It appears that he was ordered to Camp Taylor for muster out on August 1, 1865.  Any information would be appreciated.

Hello,

A friend of mine is related to Jacob Boucher of the 100th Ohio
Infantry. He died in a Knoxville, TN hospital in early July 1864
possibly of wounds from the fighting south of the Kennesaw Line in
Georgia. His regiment was part of Reilly's Brigade, Jacob Cox's
Division, 23rd Corps/Army of the Ohio.

She is wondering if he was sick in the hospital or was he wounded? I
don;t thibnk the Ohio Compiled Service Records are online at Fold3.com
as yet so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Greg--Boucher's entries in the Ohio Roster (VII, pages 430 and 750) do not specify wounds or disease. You are correct on Fold3 not yet having the Ohio CMSR cards online, and I just checked FamilySearch, which does not yet have them either.

I checked the Medical & Surgical History, but no reference to him.

Is your colleague aware that Jacob's mother, Mary Boucher, filed a pension application on 28 April 1883 as a dependent, application #303663; no certificate number is listed in either the organizational index on Fold3 or alphabetical index on Ancestry, so assume she did not receive a pension. There should still be a file, however, which would be a next step if she does not already have the file.

Tony Valentine's website at http://100thovi.com/ has descendants listed for some 100th OVI members, who might be potential contacts for further information.

Larry Stevens' website lists some National Tribune articles that might be worth pursuing, at http://www.ohiocivilwar.com/cw100.html ; the Library of Congress has many of the issues in their "Chronicling America" collection.

Order up or have a researcher check the soldier's Medical Records at the National Archives

Hello,

Thanks for the tip.  What file grouping are these in?  RG 92?

The problem with ordering copies from the NA, based on personal and the experiences of numerous others, is that whoever copies the files often does not copy the whole file!

One must specifically request the medical records. A general request for military records will not obtain medical info.
