I'll take a look at what's on-line and save the Marietta Newspaper for a site visit.

In the meantime, if anyone is interested in this regiment, there is correspondence from one of the men in a book called, "Dear Isa, Dear Johna from John A. Brown (The Civil War Correspondence of One of the Ohio's Hundred Days' Men, First Sergeant John A. Brown.).

Thanks.

Thanks for the note. Thus far, I haven't come across anything on the 148th
OVI. As the regiment was raised in Washington and Vinton Counties, I'd
suggest browsing through the summer of 1864 issues of the McArthur Democrat
which are available online at
http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn87075163/issues/1864/

The Ohio Historical Society has copies of the several Marietta newspapers
that were published during the war-good chance that there should be some
letters from the 148th OVI in there as well. Unfortunately, I do not think
that those are available online.

Best of luck in your search.

Best Regards,
Dan

Joe:
Thanks for the note. I have not yet come across anything from the 9th Ohio
Infantry, but have been focusing my efforts on indexing English language
newspapers so I wouldn't expect to find much from "Der Neuner." Will keep
you posted as to progress.

Thanks for the note. I am currently working on the Lancaster Gazette, but
will gladly take on the Pomeroy Telegraph next. I have come across two
letters from members of the 116th OVI thus far in my work. Both newspapers
are available online at the Chronicling America website:

Newspaper County State Issue Pg
Correspondent Rank Letter
Belmont Chronicle Belmont OH October 8, 1863 4 Bassett, William H. PVT Martinsburg,
Virginia, September 24, 1863 Co. C, 116th OVI

Mountain, Virginia, January 24, 1864, 116th OVI
